Do you know what a computer is?
There are three basic parts of a computer: The input unit, the central processing unit (CPU) and the output unit.
Let’s imagine you want to send or store some information using a computer. It may be something to want to keep or something to want to print out. First of all, you send the information to the CPU from a keyboard. The information can be sent straight to the CPU or may be store in a disk.
When the information reaches the CPU it is translated into a special code by the CPU´s “brain”, the ROM (read only memory). With this, the CPU reads the information and then it is stored in a memory called RAM (random access memory).
Finally, the information is sent to the output unit. It can be displayed on the monitor, or can be printed out using a printer. The information can also be sent to other computers using a modem, for example.
